It was summery night in Canberra when I turned off the ABC election coverage, to venture out to ANU Bar for Spring Break. A night of promising hip hop and live grafitti art.

It wasn't much of a shock to read DJ Shadow was coming back for another Australian tour. It was a shock however, to find he was coming to Canberra as part of the DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist Hard Sell tour. Since when does Canberra get the big name international acts? I snapped up my ticket (at half the price of the Melbourne gig) with glee and then crossed off the days till April 23.

It was a cold Melbourne night, when we headed across town for the hometown launch of A-Love's Ace of Hearts album. With precision timing we arrived for the first act.

It was once pointed out to me that I'm too soft on crowds in my journals. So this time, I'm not holding back.

Notes to the crowd:

• just because we're outdoors, it doesn't mean it's ok for you to smoke.
• smoking in my face is not cool.
• holding your cigarette inches from my jumper is not cool.
• talking on your phone is not cool.
• talking on your phone during 'Banana Pancakes' is definitely not cool.
• talking to your friends is not cool.
• raising your voice over the performance so your mates can hear you while you talk is definitely not cool.
• standing up when there is hundreds of people sitting behind you is not cool.

I had a non lazy moment for a second and updated my music collection list.
